Let The Cold Wind Blow

Things have been taking a turn here in Ennis the past few days. We have had a crazy weather pattern strike us this week. We started out by getting engulfed in smoke coming from fires in Idaho. Following that, we had some winds blow in a cold front and we woke up with snow on the ridgeline of the mountains and rain throughout the lower part of the valley. The subsurface fishing has stayed consistent with the colder weather, but it has slowed down the terrestrial fishing. Don’t get discouraged - we are still getting fish to look up on smaller attractors and chubbys. Streamers and nymphs are the way to go in the clouds this week though. My guess is that the big game hunters are happy that the snow pushed down some critters!
FWP has fixed up Kobayashi Beach on Ennis Lake and the flows of the Madison have gotten back to a regular flow. On the Upper we are still a hundred CFS down from the “average” flow this time of year. We are at 1130 CFS at the Cameron gauge and the Lower Madison is at 1150 CFS. With all the rain in the forecast next week I would expect the river to bump up.
