So Close I Can Almost Taste It
JUNE 2024
UPDATED 6/13/2024
Well it’s June 13th here in Ennis and things are starting to ramp up. Town itself is getting busier by the day. We are seeing more people in the shop, the grocery store, and the restaurants. It must be because the river flows have been dropping the last couple days! We are sitting at 1470 CFS at Kirby and 2570 CFS at Cameron. The color has turned from a dirty brown with 6 inches of visibility, to around 18 inches of visibility and a brownish green tint. We hit our peak runoff last week and the river should just continue to drop this weekend.
The successful flies have been pretty similar with the river still being a little off color. I’ve just been using big rubber legs, worms, princes, and pheasant tails. But when the water shapes up it will allow us to start fishing a bigger variety of patterns. A question we have been getting a lot is “ When will the salmon flies pop” My guess is June 20th, I’ll see you there.
Please keep an eye on the gauges throughout runoff. It is not safe to run a drift boat or raft between Lyons and Palisades when flows exceed 1700 CFS at the Kirby gauge. As always our shop in downtown Ennis is stocked to the brim with flies so don't be afraid to swing by and check them out for yourself. Also feel free to swing by the shop for a more in-depth and up to date fishing report or general fishing advice. Just a reminder as well it is now barbless hooks only from Varney bridge to the Lake so pinch those barbs. Enjoy the warm weather this weekend and be safe out there!
