SWEET SEPTEMBER
SEPTEMBER 2024
UPDATED 9/05/2024
Bugling bulls, rambunctious rainbows, and the turning of the trees can only mean one thing: Fall is coming for Southwest Montana. There has been some excellent fishing the last few days on the Upper Madison. Streamer fishing continues to produce great fish. We’re still finding fish that are looking up for dry flies on bright and sunny days. The evening caddis hatches are starting to become more prominent. Fall baetis should be imminent.
A new dock is being installed at Kobayashi Beach. North Western Energy will lower Ennis Lake to about 4,839 feet for the dock installation. The lake will stay at this level until September 17th. Varney to town is pretty boney with the Cameron gauge running at 1040 CFS. Water temperatures are looking great with the recent cool weather, most days have been in the 64F - 65F degree mark for the high. We’re extremely fortunate to have plenty of water still in Hebgen with it at 88.4% full. The outflow from the dam at Hebgen is 804.1 CFS as of today.
As always our shop in downtown Ennis is stocked to the brim with flies so don't be afraid to swing by and check them out for yourself. Also feel free to swing by the shop for a more in-depth and up to date fishing report or general fishing advice. Just a reminder as well it is now barbless hooks only from Varney bridge to the Lake so pinch those barbs. Enjoy the warm weather this weekend and be safe out there!
